Bringing a distilled blend of music from Lake Tahoe, CA, Connor McLeod synthesizes his experiences as a multi-instrumentalist and producer into his Sycamore Sound project. With its roots in jazz, hip-hop, and their electronic intersections, there's an undeniable layer of skill underpinning his creative output. For The Rust Music’s 99th release, we are supremely excited to present McLeod’s latest minted work, the Temporal Loop EP.
Wearing his influences on his sleeve, it’s clear that McLeod has found a clear, vibrant concoction bordering on trip-hop’s instrumental drive. Hard hitting low-end comes with surprising force, laying down solid rhythmic foundations across the runtime of Temporal Loop. Its percussion is laser focused on the broken-beat lane, maintaining a strict adherence to head-hod fundamentals. Between confident chord phrasing and proper sampling etiquette, the entire release balances its constituent ingredients with the kind of ease that bona fide instrumentalists bring to the table. No matter what angle you approach Temporal Loop from, Sycamore Sound effuses a vibe that’s guaranteed to sit in your musical pocket.

SHIFT - B.O.M.B.S.
About B.O.M.B.S.
Adding to the catalog, we're tapping into the talents of the stalwart Salt Lake City, Utah based producer SHIFT. Running on 15 years of experience in songwriting and production, coupled with his formative years embedded in the L.A. rave scene, his focus is dialed in on a blended interpretation of modern bass music, properly weaving through the sound system-centric subgenres that dominate the contemporary space. B.O.M.B.S., his latest dual-sided adventure, appropriates elements from drum and bass, breakbeat, and UKG to effectively translate his vision.
Between the eponymous track B.O.M.B.S. and its associate, P.R.I.M.P., it's all undulated bass lines from start to finish. Whip-sharp snares and snappy percussive textures bring fresh air across both tracks, with a smattering of dancefloor rhythms meeting in the middle. Switching seamlessly between half-time and full-time drum lines, replete with guttural synthesis in as many forms, it's clear SHIFT is a product of his varied environments. He's clearly done his homework on both the compositional and production ends of the game, and the payoff is an altogether explosive 1-2 bass bin punch to the chest.
For fans of low-slung bass lines and rambunctious groove, B.O.M.B.S. is certain to become a mainstay in your headphones this year.

Rumpsitol - Above The Horizon/Pale Blue Dot (Remixes)
About the remixes
We’re proud to present two more remixes by 57º North and Foxtail from Rumpistol’s award winning 2025 album, Nebula, alongside the reworks previously released from AYO & ISAN.
Above The Horizon (57° North Remix)
With their rich soundscapes, quirky melodies and epic vibe, 57° North is a brand new project consisting of Johannes Hedberg from the legendary Swedish ambient duo Carbon Based Lifeforms and Tore Kofod aka Erot. They met for the first time at the airport in Budapest, both on their way to Ozora Festival. They subsequently agreed to do a track together and 57° North was born. This is their first official release.
Pale Blue Dot (Foxtail Remix)
Utah-based artist Foxtail pays tribute to Carl Sagan and humanity’s curiosity, humility, and search for peace beyond Earth with his beautiful remix inspired by the Voyager Golden Record. Created over a year with deep care and respect, the remix reflects Foxtail’s reverence for one of humanity’s most enduring legacies - an artifact destined to outlast our planet itself.
Original compositions and production by Jens Berents Christiansen aka Rumpistol.

About Echoes Of Dust
Starting the year off on a choice note, the first minted Rust Music release for the year of 2026 arrives as Echoes of Dust, a collaborative EP between Denver-based EOS and Minneapolis-based Wicker’s Portal. Built on a shared love of detailed sound design, deep low end, and melodic interplay, the project came together through a careful and deliberate exchange of ideas. The result is a record that feels fluid and alive, balancing atmospheric space with moments of forward motion and intensity.
Cracking into the first pulsating minutes of Echoes of Dust puts the scintilla of sound at full volume, with a clear show out of the synthesis on display throughout the entire record. It’s immediately dynamic, stretching from subtly tuned sub weight to the clear syncopation of call-and-response songwriting. It was envisioned to give space to ambient textures and intense frequency warping in the same breath, choosing neither the entirely frenetic nor particularly tame paths in each song's arrangement, but instead combining those sensibilities in an altogether different kind of listening experience.
Broken beat rhythms meandering between drum and bass, downtempo, and IDM grooves keep the pace refreshing and engaging, bringing the macro listening experience across five unique tracks to a series of emotional highs and explorative lows. Judged against the contemporary backdrop, Echoes of Dust is inarguably standout, demonstrating a matured compositional approach to the often high-brow dynamics of niche electronic music in this form.
