The Rust Music Presents: NEBULA ft. Rumpistol (Album Release) w/ Entangled Mind & Malakai at The Sultan Room — Brooklyn, NY

Join us May 24th at The Sultan Room to celebrate the release of Rumpistol’s new album, Nebula, with sets from Rumpistol, Entangled Mind and Malakai. The album will be available to purchase on vinyl and we’ll have some other surprises to share with you at the show - we can’t wait to see you!

Lineup:

Rumpistol (Album Release)

Entangled Mind (Downtempo Set)

Malakai

About Nebula:

On the list of recurrent favorites from The Rust Music, Rumpistol has kept us enamored with his compositions for the entirety of our label’s active years. A musician and producer of remarkable vision and professionalism, each successive Rumpistol release has gradually unveiled more and more of the story hidden in sound, playing out more like a musical drama than just a catalog. Consequently, Nebula is much more than just an album:

The LP is inspired along two mingled fronts, being both a testament and a love letter to the waning awe that the Space Race (and its implications) imbued amongst the many peoples of the world, while also being designed with an implicit focus on the results on stage. Nebula’s arrangements work in tandem with these ideas, combining jazz, neoclassical motifs, and modern electronic music, utilizing an array of both vintage and contemporary tones and compositional approaches to channel the all-encompassing wonder of the cosmos. Its pacing is entirely unlike the more dance-oriented offerings in the Rumpistol discography, replacing frenetic energy with the draw of tempered, introspective listening. Explicitly recorded and designed alongside a cast of instrumentalists and visual designers, the record is the next logical step in Rumpistol’s recent grounding in his consistent live ensemble, breaking out of the traditional molds that tend to keep producers narrowed to a single lane. Naturally, for The Rust’s upcoming 95th release, we can think of no more perfect a match than the Nebula LP.

The Rust Music Presents: 5amily and Friends ft 5am Trio, Tygris & Squalpat at The Sultan Room – Brooklyn, NY

We’re incredibly excited to present our next intimate experience in The Sultan Room; on November 16th, we’ll be hosting the 5AM Trio, Tygris, and Squalpat for an evening of live instrumental blends, sample chopping, turntablism, and collaborative performances. Through blended catalogs filled with choice flavor, a multitude of styles, and roots in organic songwriting, you’re guaranteed to get your musical fill.

Tickets are on sale now, and we can’t wait to see y'all again in The Sultan Room!

ABOUT 5AM Trio

Pulling influences from funk, jazz, trip-hop, and beyond, Philly-based producer and keyboardist Sam Andrus aka 5AM has forged a style of expertly woven bass music known both full spectrum sound-design and melodic mastery. 5AM is no stranger to fusion, whether it be jazz fusion, or the fusion of high fidelity electronic music with live instrumentation. To expand on this vision, the 5AM Trio employs the dextrous drumming of Aaron Harel (ZONE Drums) and the guitar wizardry of Keith Wadsworth (Wax Future). The Trio have soared to new heights recently, having shared the stage with acts as diverse as Papadosio, Clozee, Lab Group, Break Science, Lotus, and Tiedye Ky, and have built strong roots throughout the festival scene, playing festivals like Elements, Summerdance, Sonic Bloom and Secret Dreams and countless more.

ABOUT Tygris

Blending various genres of music, Tygris continues to handle any dancefloor with ease. In 2019 he landed himself on the map alongside other halftime and bass music producers, with his debut EP “Fabric”. It didn’t take long for his blend of sound design and turntablism to catch the attention of many, and solidify him as a cutting edge producer and DJ in the experimental bass music scene.

To follow up a strong start, Tygris continued to release a slew of singles and EPs, including collaborative releases with 5AM, Squalpat, Wessanders, Charles Nimbus, and Rasp-5 to name a few. Currently, Tygris is working on multiple collaborative projects, as well as solo releases that are focused on dancefloor centric rhythms and influenced by Breakbeats, Drum & Bass, and Hip-Hop.

Submersion Festival 2024 – Hammonton, NJ

Daily Schedules

ABOUT SUBMERSION FESTIVAL

Submersion Festival is a boutique, independently-owned and operated music and arts festival based in Hammonton, New Jersey. Hosted by Aspire Higher and The Rust Music, the festival finds itself nestled within the sprawling Paradise Lakes campground amongst the Garden State’s lush Pine Barrens for a third consecutive year. Bringing together musical communities and vetted professionals from the combined Philadelphia and New York area, we strive to provide a tightly curated weekend of selective programming, expansive visual art, cutting-edge sound systems alongside a modest cast of friends and family.

Abundant natural shade and the amenable October weather provide a welcomed-respite from the usual summertime sizzle at contemporary events. With music spread between the lake-side Beach Stage and the cozy crucible of the Woods Stage, staggered lineups run the full gamut from early afternoon until our much-beloved sunrise at the dawn of each morning. For any and all personal needs, we offer a hand-picked selection of local food vendors, a nearly round-the-clock general store, and instructor-led wellness and yoga sessions during the quiet morning hours. Additionally, you'll find on-site the centrally-located medical team, free potable water stations, dedicated and temporary washroom facilities with weekend-long maintenance, and a full crew of production and harm-reduction staff working day and night to ensure the safety of our guests, and the success of the weekend.

We have had the pleasure of a lifetime hosting this event year after year, and we expect 2024 to be no different. We are tremendously excited to once again welcome a cast of old faces and new names, and celebrate a weekend of revelry and relaxation in the lap of some of our favorite music and visual artists on the circuit.

_______________________________

We are so grateful for the incredible progress Johnny has made over this past year, but we still have a long road ahead of us. Although Johnny is walking, he still needs the aid of a leg brace, and an arm crutch. But his biggest challenge currently is his Aphasia, or his expressive speech limitations. We are optimistic that Johnny will be able to gain back more of his speech, but he will need to attend more intensive aphasia therapy courses. There are only about 15 aphasia programs though out the country, but thankfully Johnny has already been accepted to a few. Johnny & his amazing girlfriend, Kiki, plan to make their way to Wisconsin to begin another Aphasia program come September. Unfortunately these programs are very expensive, and all out of pocket pay. We are once again humbly asking for your support to help Johnny gain access to these programs to continue on his road to recovery.

Johnny is the same full of life person he always has been, just with less words, but our goal is to help him change that.
His neurologist told us on discharge day, “Johnny, never forget you are literally a walking miracle.” and as much as we know that is true, we want Johnny to be a walking, & talking miracle!

K.L.O

8 years after the release of their debut Acid Scratch LP, K.L.O remains an undeniable benchmark for impact, intensity, and pure style. Brandishing crisp, cutting-edge electronic grooves and mean-mugging low end, their music has its own dynamic swagger, with few boundaries and fewer rules at play. For the length of their career, K.L.O has been a mainstay addition across some of our favorite events at home and throughout the country, and we’re especially excited to host them for our upcoming evening at NYC’s legendary House of Yes.

Duffrey

Duffrey is an eclectronic music producer with an insatiable hunger for brain tickling soundscapes and squelchy bass. Woody Klann, a musician from a young age, has been squeezing sounds from his environment since he can remember. He combines an undeniable groove, rich instrumentation, and complex sonic exploration to transport the listener on a funky intergalactic journey.

Utilizing a fusion of the chilled out, hazy influence from the Northwest and the lush vibrant inspiration of Northern California, Woody has defined an entirely new sonic vocabulary. He experiments with many genres including Midtempo, Dub, Four on the Floor, and Drum and Bass and the result is comparable to an omnitempo psychedelic space safari. He’s known for converting brainwaves into tangible vibration that takes control of your body and leaves you tingling.

pheel.

pheel., aka Philip Gallo, hails from the east coast and is currently residing in Denver. Since he moved in 2016, he has immersed himself in developing a unique perspective on bass music, drawing influences from a mixture or his roots as well as the local Colorado community. pheel. strives to take his audience on a sonic adventure with each set, guiding them through equal parts hip-hop and “bass music”. He pays respect to the classics of his youth simultaneously reimagining these tracks with modern production techniques and rumbling bass lines.

Meet The Artists

Pola & Bryson [showgun audio]

Undoubtedly two of the most exciting next-gen producers making moves in drum and bass of late, Pola & Bryson have shot onto the scene with their own carefully sculpted brand of melodic electronic music that centers around a stripped-back, organic sound palette.

With their debut album This Time Last Year on their Soulvent Records imprint putting the duo firmly on the map, and their sophomore album Lost in Thought on Shogun Audio being nominated for best album in the Drum&BassArena Awards, it comes as no surprise to find the pair in high demand. In a matter of years, Pola & Bryson have already been enlisted to remix the likes of Moby, Wilkinson, and Camo & Krooked as well as collaborating on an EP with the veteran DJ Marky. And do we even need to mention the duo’s bootleg of Adam F’s “Circles” that has quite literally been played in every rave imaginable.

While most producers take years to write their next album, Pola & Bryson are now fresh off the back of their third studio album ‘Beneath the Surface’ on Shogun. A conceptual album was written to an imagined landscape, this ambitious body of work has led to D&B legends such as Sub Focus claiming the duo are “leading the new wave of liquid drum and bass”.

With sophistication well beyond their young years, Pola & Bryson are showing no signs of slowing down as they continue to take their music and performances to new heights. Trust us when we say there are many more levels to come…

MEET THE ARTISTS:

Commodo

An artist with minimal online presence and who keeps himself to himself, Commodo is one of an increasingly rare few who make waves through the strength of their music alone. He builds bass-focussed beats with soul and substance that never perpetuate a formula, distancing himself from contemporaries with ingenious sampling and sound design influenced by his long-time affinity with the vibrancy of hiphop. Regardless of whether it’s the tough, dread-pressurised bassweight of his dancefloor-leaning productions or the tonally rich and immersive qualities of his more cerebral work, his scrupulous studio techniques are evidenced by the resounding freshness and longevity of his tracks both new and old. His inherently unique and accomplished production style earned him recognition right from the outset of his ascendancy and garnered early attention from a host of key figures within the dubstep community; finding a natural home for his music at the bastion of low frequency excellence, Deep Medi Musik.

Having already accumulated a gem-laden discography, there is undoubtedly much more to come from Commodo. It's shaping up to be an exciting future for a guy who will continue to challenge himself musically, explore new BPMs and aesthetics, innovate and cement his reputation as one of the UK underground’s best-regarded producers.

Easyjack

Known on the stage as Easyjack, Jack Whelan juggles his time and passion between his roles in the studio, behind the decks, and as the co-owner of and a main engineer for Soundsystem Cultures. The Easyjack project stretches across a number of genres and tempos, but low-frequency is the common denominator; whether it's upbeat grooves or dubbed-out hues, his legendary palette and catalog are prime earwigs for any discerning dancefloor.

Edica+

When Edica+ is behind the decks you can expect a hefty serving of sound system culture, where flavorful and intoxicating sounds from around the world come to life, leaving fans utterly satiated.

As a member of Dub-Stuy record label and founder of Dub & Effection, Edica+ always has ten fingers on the pulse as she provides irresistibly groovy tracks full of bombastic low-end with effortless grace. Her music is an homage to the roots of Dub while providing her very own contemporary flair.

Ellis Delta

Step into the hauntingly captivating world of Ellis Delta, where darkness and intrigue blend seamlessly with 90s vocal samples, intense melodies, and intricate synth arrangements.

From the very first notes of tracks like ‘Chirp Wheeler’, to the enigmatic allure of ‘What's Your Social Security Number’, Ellis Delta's music is a testament to his bullish creativity and open-ended source material.

This one is a can’t miss for fans of jazz infused, bass driven, psychedelic beats – hope to see you there on the dance floor!

MEET THE ARTISTS:

5AM

5AM is Philly-based producer, musician, graphic designer, and creative magnate Sam Andrus. Once a student at the Rhode Island School of Design burning the midnight oil in the studio with a soundtrack always in the background, Sam has since forged his inspirations from jazz fusion, funk, and future beats into a style of bass music known to captivate audiences with a spectacle of mesmerizing detail and high resolution sound design. 5AM’s music merges worlds as it expertly weaves electronic production and live instrumentation through creative processing and meticulous mixing.

To bring his journey full circle, Sam has expanded his project to form the 5AM Trio, a collaboration complete with live drumming from ZONE Drums (Aaron Harel) and guitar, bass, and pads from Keith Wadsworth. 5AM has soared to new heights, becoming the first electronic music producer to perform at the historic Kings Theatre in New York City for the sold-out Tipsgiving. 5AM is now a seasoned performer who's shared the stage with Tipper, Shpongle, Jade Cicada, kLL sMTH, Detox Unit, Kalya Scintilla, Random Rab, and more, and lived and built strong roots up and down the east and west coasts of the US.

SMIGONAUT

Smigonaut aka Josh Kipersztok approaches alternative electronic music with the touch of a trained jazz musician and the precision of an audio engineering professional. He is, in fact, both of these things. From glitch hop to downtempo, Smigonaut’s brand of bass music stands - or rather swings - out from the pack. Swaggering from the speaker stacks his music strikes a balance between the experimental and the accessible. He produces low-down, left-field neuro bass, but couches it in familiar jazzy frameworks.

Originally hailing from Seattle, Washington, Josh learned to play instruments early in life. His great familiarity with note relationships adds dimension to his music that few producers on the electronic airwaves can mirror. With the right scale he’ll pull deep emotions from the audience. In the next bar, he’ll brighten the dance floor by dangling from note to note like a trapeze artist. Josh cultivated these skills, versed himself in music technology, and developed a professional approach to composition as a student at Berklee College of Music. As a post grad, he began flexing sound systems from New York City to Portland, Oregon and hasn’t looked back. Today he’s a mainstay on lineups at major music festivals and curated club nights throughout the Northeastern US.

HUMANDALA

Humandala expresses the geometry and synchronicity of the human experience. Ever-evolving and honoring all forms of music, Humandala strives to explore new territory free from the restraints of genre. Blending the synthetic with the organic, the traditional with the undiscovered and the darkness with the light, Humandala captures in music, the experience that connects us all.

Meet the Artists:

DUFFREY:

Duffrey has an insatiable hunger for brain tickling soundscapes and funky bass. Growing up as an Oakland based drummer and musician from a young age, he’s been squeezing sounds from his environment since he can remember. His goal is to convert brainwaves into vibrational energy that takes control of your body and leaves you tingling.

Some words on Duffrey’s 2021 release with The Rust Music, Return to Source:

“Amidst the landscape of American-bred bass music, Duffrey has carved out a space near the tip of the spear, brandishing a reputation as a dancefloor fiasco in his own right and an integral arm of the Ultrasloth producer group. Just in time for a return to sound systems across the continent, The Rust is incredibly excited to host his latest minted release, Return to Source.

In true Duffrey fashion, the EP is replete with a pure head-nod focus, channeling smooth synthesis and pocketed bass lines into inviting, staccato rhythms. The flash and fanfare of contemporary sound design can sometimes feel like an oversaturated veneer, but Duffrey’s straightforward texture palette eases the listener into an experience that does as much justice through easy listening as it does on the club floor. Eschewing both brooding and manic atmosphere’s, his preferences and style instead lend themselves to jovial, petrol-laden anthems that roar with confidence as opposed to sheer ferocity. For the heads looking for a package that oozes with swagger and specificity, Duffrey’s Return to Source should be more than enough to satiate your needs.”

SYLPH:

Wielding a striking production and songwriting prowess, Emily Rose Thaler is the meticulous, thorough individual behind the Sylph moniker; fusing over a dozen years of continuous musical education and experimentation, the pronounced ethereal bent and weighty, emotive themes of the Sylph catalog engender the image of constant evolution.

Utilizing shared and disparate elements across halftime, drum and bass, 140, downtempo, and psybass disciplines, Sylph is a wonderful amalgamation of pristine synthesis and harmonic interplay. In a performance context, her larger vision of psychedelia and impact take on an engrossing dimension, keeping dancefloors steadily in the pocket and ears at sharp attention.

CRAWDAD SNIPER:

We’re excited to welcome Crawdad Sniper to NYC for the first time following the release of his recent EP, Squid Pro Quo with The Rust Music this past January.

Some words on the release:

“Hailing from the D.C. area and falling back on a lifetime of experience behind the drum kit, Crawdad Sniper is a producer/DJ with a significant rhythmic bent. Already boasting a modest catalog of hip-shaking tunes and sprinkles of funkadelic electronic music, his latest collection of tracks fields sharp sound design and pocketed phasing with a polished profile. In a bid to start the new off with a righteous groove, The Rust is especially excited to host his newly minted EP, Squid Pro Quo.

Tight, pinpoint percussion dominates the runtime of Squid Pro Quo, serving as the consistent foundation for his rhythmic and melodic arrangements. Taking clear advantage of his time as a drummer, it’s simultaneously the backbone and foreground of the EP, with each hit taking up generous sonic bandwidth. Each track flares with an alternate series of forward and laid back attitudes while keeping the focus squarely on kinetics; splices of throaty synthesis mingle with staccato lead lines and harmonized chord plucks, closing the distance between hard hitting neuro motifs and pronounced songwriting fundamentals. There’s an almost liquid quality to the EP’s engineering, producing a listening experience that is as hygienic as it is engaging, and betraying a significant dedication to cleanliness as well as design. For fans and appreciators of rhythmic inertia, funk motifs, and generous synthesis, Crawdad Sniper’s Squid Pro Quo is guaranteed to satisfy.”
