Soaring into Brooklyn at terminal velocity from the Mile High City of Denver, Nestra's performance at BK Mirage landed in the dead center of a 12 hour marathon cutting-edge dance floor music. Known as an impeccable selector and DJ in her home city, it's no surprise that she hit the decks with extreme prejudice. After being boots on the ground ourselves for the ensuing frenzy, we're incredibly excited to host Nestra's recorded set in posterity as the 50th edition of Rusted Rhythms.

Stepping squarely out of the boundaries of her contemporaries sharing the stage, Nestra's hour in the spotlight featured a whiplash cocktail of breakbeat, house, and a dash of psybient attitude. The frenetic rhythms and the driving low end featured throughout the mix come from a deep well of talent, including the likes of Nikki Nair, Guau, and Sam Binga, with each track burning serious rubber out of each successive transition. For beat freaks in the mood for a percussive hailstorm with moxie to boot, look no further than Rusted Rhythms Vol. 50.

Rusted Rhythms encourages participants to experiment. For its 26th installment, The Rust Music itself is stepping outside our comfort zone with this collection of upper bpm music from Philadelphia native and seasoned house producer/DJ Patrick Richards. Just in time for Halloween, this mix dives into danceable spooky darkness. Patrick Richards, whose real name is Patrick Monahan, is known regionally for energizing crowds with classic, uplifting house. He pulls from soul, funk and pop, grounds everything in an irresistible dance step and mixes it flawlessly. As such, this mix - full of deep techno, dark synthesizers, a bit of spacious breaks, and more tasty surprises - is a stylistic departure for Patrick Richards as well. He pulls it off with grace. There are some mystifying drops here that would turn a dancefloor upside down, and some pocket spaces that allow the mind to wander while the body buzzes back and forth on nimble feet. Broadcasting from the holler of Asheville, North Carolina, Ryan Laffler aka Soul Candy offers an omnivorous exploration of broken beat. This mix moves through glitch, hip-hop, British breaks and back again, with brief downtempo respites to help listeners catch their breath. These rhythms include old school hip-hop throwbacks, deep selections from names both legendary and unknown, and weighty cuts from the cream of the contemporary glitch crop; Kursa, Seppa, Detox Unit, Monuman and K.LO. It’s all sewn together through an aggressive mixing style - Soul Candy takes risks when splicing together tunes, creating those one-of-a-kind musical spaces that make a mix memorable.
