Rusted Rhythms Vol. 42 - Okeh Bosque

Amidst the sea of contemporary platforms for eclectic electronic music, VALE and Forest Biz maintain a steady position at the forefront of the pack. Both entities have spent the last several years in service of especially fluid styles, showcasing a brazen form of creativity bereft of boundaries; everything from Garage to Neuro, Trip-hop to Glitch-hop, organic to synthesized, and every flavor and texture in between.

With such clear parallels between both labels, it should come as no surprise that a faceless concept act by the name of Okeh Bosque is a collaborative project between them, showcasing not just the novel individuality of each respective catalog, but going the distance to educate rhythm junkies on the complexities of high-powered, matrixed bass music mixes. In celebration of this newly minted bridge between contemporary operations, The Rust is excited to present Rusted Rhythms Vol. 42, curated by the Okeh Bosque duo. For fans of either label and appreciators of cutting-edge electronic music, this edition of Rusted Rhythms should be priority number one on your evolving listening list.

This mix in particular is awash with choice selections from across DnB's audacious spectrum, featuring works from DJ Marky, Alix Perez, Calibre, Quadrant & Iris, and other titans of the genre.

For the 23rd installment of Rusted Rhythms, Sortof Vague and Vinja team up to present a hair-raising mix ripe with delicious vinyl cuts. Sam Whittingham (Sortof Vague), the man behind the decks, is a Colorado native with a keen ear for musical atmospheres. Vince Santora (Vinja), commanding the turntables, is a veteran rhythm curator. Together, their talents align into a mutagenic 45-minute melee. Weaving through drum and bass, half-time, and neuro formats, this mix is an appeal to the adrenaline junkie. The mixing itself is an art to behold. Each successive track and transition compliments not just the track it overtakes, but the sum of the extended musical journey. Honing in especially on bone-crushing bass lines, the tracklist features a brutal collaboration between Sortof Vague and Vinja, as well as cuts from NOISIA, DJ Madd, Metafloor, Detox Unit, and a host of other producers dug out from the deep wells of bass music. If you enjoy hearing cerebral soundmen slice sub-woofers in half, then you’ve surely found your next soundtrack with Rusted Rhythms Vol. 23.

Rusted Rhythms Vol. 17 - Jason Burruss

Jason Burruss has been a linchpin in the bass music community in both California and Colorado for years.

Jason Burruss has been a linchpin in the bass music community in both California and Colorado for years. Whether it be constructing intricate DJ sets using an incredible breadth of genres moods and tempos, curating innovative events with his production company, Purple Couch, or creating custom jewelry, Jason Burruss is a seemingly ubiquitous lifeform, popping up and creating something interesting wherever he finds himself. He has an ostensibly intrinsic ability to adapt to his environment. In preparation for this mix the artist explored our collective's music taste, and constructed a narrative that suits both our ethos and listener's sonic preference.

Check out the mix and make sure to check out Jason's mixes/sets, artwork, and events.

Rusted Rhythms Vol. 7 - Jon Kennedy

Jon Kennedy has also been gracious enough to provide the seventh installment of Rusted Rhythms.

Jon Kennedy has also been gracious enough to provide the seventh installment of Rusted Rhythms. This exclusive 65-minute mix features some of our favorite cuts from “HA!”, a handful of older tracks and remixes from Kennedy, and highly exclusive remixes and unreleased tunes from legends like 6blocc and Reso. Not to mention that the mix was done in one take on control vinyl - all solid state needle on records.

Take the opportunity to enjoy highlights from an already seamless album alongside unreleased gems in this continuous mix, while catching a glimpse of Kennedy’s wider catalog. We promise there’s a handful of heavy surprises in there, too!
