Gaddy, pride of Houston, is taking a different approach to Rusted Rhythms and offering a one-hour all vinyl, all hip-hop mix featuring rare selections of wax from his personal collection. One could call this a historical musical tour or ‘influences mix” for Gaddy. These rhythms and this drum work is foundational for his own bass-infused compositions. Or one could simply call it some low down laid back G business. Both would be correct. Gaddy is a true archivist of hip-hop from generations past; G Funk, Erik Sermon, original chopped and screwed music, Lord Finesse, original west coast sound, Scarface. This mix has it all. Although it features mostly instrumentals, the mix concludes with some hard, insightful spoken word from Austin poet Poetic the Butcher. When you’re lost in the lean, grooving pockets Gaddy creates in this mix, just remember it’s all spun by hand on two turntables. Keep your eyes and ears on Gaddy, as one week from today on February 12th The Rust Music will have something special (and more current) to share from the foodtruck fugitive.
